Tracking first-class luggage from door to hotel

KLM and Air France wanted a door-to-hotel luggage drop-off service for first-class passengers. My task: the easiest way for an agent to manage the process, a system that tracks every bag through every step.

Iterating to simple

I designed the BagPortr website end to end, and behind it the tooling that tracks every bag. I started with a basic list of items and iterated until we reached something better than the existing three-way handoff. It was my first time in the aviation space, and the challenge was making a genuinely complex logistics process feel simple for the customer.

Four steps, door to carousel

The core of the design was collapsing a messy logistics chain into a flow anyone could follow at a glance: you book, we collect, we deliver, you receive. Every step maps to a tracked stage in the system behind it.

Booking around real constraints

The service only runs within a 60 km radius of the airport, so the booking flow leads with exactly that: pick your airport, drop in your suburb, and the site tells you straight away whether you’re covered, before anyone gets their hopes up.

The promise, in pictures

The whole experience rests on three things the design had to keep front and centre: it’s convenient, your bag is safe, and you travel with peace of mind.

A BagPortr customer, bags handled for them
Convenient — collected from your doorstep
A suitcase sealed with a numbered security tag
Safe — every bag tagged and tracked

Peace of mind — checked onto your flight
