An aviation-grade flight bag pilots actually enjoy using

Working with product owners and pilots, I helped design an Electronic Flight Bag for British Airways subsidiaries Comair and Kulula, replacing the paper reference material in a pilot’s carry-on flight bag.

  • Paperlesscockpit reference, in the pilot’s hand
  • 2 airlinesresearch flights with British Airways & Kulula crews

Research in the cockpit

Observational research was conducted with pilots in the cockpit to determine how to optimise the application. My focus: aligning every design to business objectives while implementing the best possible experience in a safety-critical environment.

From concept to product

The initial concept merged the existing web application with a service showing pilots all stats for their flights. We built a lean prototype, then developed and optimised using Agile principles, working directly with developers on new features. The result helps Comair and Kulula fly more competitively and efficiently, and is genuinely user-friendly both in the cockpit and online.
